My Phone is Smarter Than Me

Cue the hallelujah chorus–I finally got a new cell phone. I’ve been happy with the LG Fusic for two years. It doubles as an MP3 player, but I have never once utilized that particular function. Like some sort of Christmas miracle, Sprint® gave me credits to upgrade my phone. I am somewhat of a risk taker. So at the news of my upgrade opportunity, I jumped off of a cliff and onto the smart phone bandwagon.

My new Samsung Instinct is a touch screen phone with an impressive list of capabilities including:
• GPS navigation
• Email
• Live TV
• Camera/ Camcorder
• Personal Organizer
• 600 entry phonebook (is it possible to know this many people?)

Alexander Graham Bell would be so proud.

Call me old fashioned, but I really only use my cell phone to call and text. Guess I have some learnin’ to do.

Six years ago I thought I had a snazzy cell phone. I could create a phone book AND play snake. Today my cell phone serves as a: computer, map, television, calendar, phone book, camera, video camera, personal assistant and a telephone. All in a machine the size of a candy bar. I have eaten steaks bigger than this phone.

The glory of my new phone makes me wonder: where will cell phones be in six more years? I can see phones of the future doing the dishes and ironing my jeans. In 2050, cell phones will probably either be the size of a quarter, or devices implanted into our brains (imagine that: your wife will literally be demanding you to pick up the kids from school from inside of your own BRAIN! No more call screening).

What other functions can we add to our cell phones?
